“And the Creek Don’t Rise” is a joy to watch

Rating:  4 out of Fordyce

How do they do it? The Williamston Theatre has once again brought us a play that is so enjoyable you want to hug the characters at the end of the show.

Michigan playwright Joe Zettelmaier penned this wonderful story about a couple from the Detroit area who move to the small town of Carson, Georgia, when she gets a job offer there. They immediately meet their offbeat neighbor, an old Southern gentlemen who is part of the local Civil War reenactment regimen.

"While We Were Bowling" shows the 50's weren't all about Ward, June and the Beaver

Rating:  4 out of Fordyce

Chalk up another hit for the Williamston Theater. On stage through is While We Were Bowling. This play by Carter W. Lewis takes place in 1957 and 1958 as we look in at what we think is a typical family of the era. We quickly learn that the models of the time—the families on Leave It to Beaver and Father Knows Best—are not real, despite the McLaughlin family’s attempts to emulate them. The script here is light and fun, in spite of family tragedy and a large dose of the bigotry, social problems, and taboos of the time.

“Greater Tuna” perfectly silly fun

Rating:  4 out of Fordyce

It is a silly show and I love it. Now on stage at Williamston Theatre is Greater Tuna. Directed by Tony Caselli, this sketch-type comedy stars Aral Gribble and Wayne David Parker as ALL the characters. Among them are Arles Struvie, Thurston Wheelis, Aunt Pearl, Petey Fisk, Phineas Blye and Rev. Spikes, and they will all make you laugh out loud.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend

Best show of this weekend was Blue Door at Williamston Theater. This one got a perfect four out of Fordyce. I also loved Fortinbras at Riverwalk in Lansing and was able to catch part of the musical review at Starlight Dinner Theater. This show was the season opener at the Starlight Dinner Theater.

“Blue Door” opens to reveal a perfect performance

Rating:  4 out of Fordyce

Blue Door is the season opener at Williamston Theatre, and it is another example of the determination and drive this theatre troupe has to keep its audiences coming back for more. To be honest, I did not think this script was going to be my cup of tea. It is heavy drama with a social message, but it was peppered with some light moments and two actors that left me spellbound.

"Five Course Love" adds up to a perfect four

Rating:  4 out of Fordyce

Williamston Theatre has done it again: a show that gives you a great evening where you laugh, smile, and think.

Five Course Love is an adorable musical show that takes place in five scenes in five separate restaurants. A three-person cast brings the whole tale to life, and a great script glides perfectly from scene to scene and song to song, right up to a fantastic ending that explains it all.
