Motown in Motion at Detroit Opera House

The Eisenhower Dance Ensemble puts the Motown Sound to Motion as they perform original dance numbers to some of the best songs to come out of Detroit, including music by The Supremes, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, and Diana Ross. 

The choreography of “Motown in Motion” is sometimes playful, sometimes humorous, but always lively as the gifted dance troupe is guaranteed to WOW audiences.

Founded in 1991 by Laurie Eisenhower, the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble has earned a reputation as one of the finest dance groups in the United States.

New "Sister" act is a holy new experience

A good Catholic cannot refuse to go to catechism class, so I obeyed once again and made the trip to the Gem Theatre in Detroit for the newest installment in the “Catechism” series. You don’t have to be Catholic to love “Sister’s Christmas Catechism” (but it helps)

The Lutherans guffawed; the Baptists did too; the Jews chuckled; and the Methodists giggled. But the Catholics in the audience laughed the loudest as we all sat in class for Sister’s Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi’s Gold.

“Plaid Tidings” is perfect holiday fun.

It was a double feature Saturday as I attended both holiday shows on the same day at the Gem and Century Theatres. Up first was the matinee of Plaid Tidings. This is the holiday sequel to Forever Plaid, the story of the ’50s singing group that was lost in a car accident and returned to Earth for one last concert.

"Best of Friends": offbeat comedy from Jeff Daniels

The 20th season is off and running at Jeff Daniels’ Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea.  The first play of the year comes to us from none other than Mr. Daniels himself. Best of Friends introduces us to two couples who at first seem like best friends who do everything together. But we quickly learn they have some conflicts and secrets.
