« "Consider the Oyster" is offbeat perfection »
Rating:
4 out of Fordyce
The folks at the Purple Rose Theatre are continuing their “All Michigan” season with Consider the Oyster. The talented folks from Chelsea picked the right play for summer. It is an offbeat comedy by David MacGregor that forces you to believe some very strange things like the Detroit Lions winning the Superbowl and the possibility that oysters can cause a sex change. That is the silly premise that will keep you laughing for two hours! It is a play full of surprises and some really good lines.

The clever plot takes you far from reality via a cast that does it oh so well. Among them: Matthew David, Stacie Hadgikosti, Michael Brian Ogden, Rhiannon Ragland and Sarab Kamoo. These are all Michigan regulars and unequaled in talent and timing. While they are all great, regulars know I just adore Sarab Kamoo, and she is a delight in this show as the combination lawyer and mother-in-law to be. If she has a fan club I should join.
Also hats off to director Guy Sanville for another great job and the behind-the-scenes crew for perfect audio, lights and scenery.
Do yourself a favor and take a summer night’s trip or an afternoon excursion to Chelsea to enjoy this show before it closes on September 3. It is guaranteed summer fun that gets a perfect 4 out of Fordyce. One note here: Leave the kids at home. This show is just for the grown-ups!
