« “Guys on Ice” a funny winter romp »

Rating: 3 out of Fordyce

You only have a week left to see Guys on Ice at the Tipping Point Theatre in Northville. This cute and funny show has been at the theater since the end of November, but with all the Christmas shows, I did not get there until Sunday.

The story is simple: two buddies go ice fishing in Wisconsin and their friend drops by.  They are all waiting for the cable TV reporter who hosts the ice fishing show.  A thin plot? Yes! A silly plot? Yes! Lots of fun? YES.

There is song and dance with a message and lots of corny jokes.

We all know these guys, they live in our Midwest streets and love life, family, fishing, hunting, fun and football. That’s probably why we love them so much.

I saw this play a few years back at Williamston Theatre and my pal Joey Albright, the guy who starred in that show, directed this version for TPT. He knows how to do it and does it right.

The cast is wonderful: Brian Sage is great as Lloyd, and Matthew Goodwin shows  off his talents as Marvin. As good as they were, my favorite was Andy Orscheln as Ernie the Mooch.

As I said, there are only a few shows left and my pal James Kuhl at TPT tells me some of those shows are sold out, so call the theatre and pick up a pair of tickets for this one. Why a pair? So you can see it with a friend and find out why I give this show a very good 3 out of Fordyce.
