« "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" best of the three »

Rating: 3 Out of Fordyce

After the cliff hanger of the second installment, I was strangely compelled to go and see the latest chapter in the Twilight Saga. Eclipse is taking the box office by storm and no one is surprised at that. What did surprise me is there is some diversity in this one, scenes designed to bring a larger audience into the theater. While the seats were filled with many young women, there were actually males in the audience at Lansing Mall Cinema. I suspect word got out that this saga has now grown a little.

The regulars are back and so is the regular plot. Bella (Kristen Stewart) is still torn between pasty white vampire boyfriend Edward (Robert Pattinson) and werewolf hunk Jacob (played by Michigan’s own Taylor Lautner). But this movie has more action and a faster pace than the first two, and the acting was better. I have been especially critical of Lautner’s acting in the past, and while his primary duty in this film was to once again parade around in tight pants with his shirt off, I must say he did do a much better job than in the past two in the scenes where he had to actually act.

My guilty pleasure was the vampire battle scenes. They were well done and I suspect they are part of the reason there were actually men in the audience. This movie is formulaic, predictable, but well done and fans will love it. And, oh yes … they set us up for another sequel.

Eclipse gets a good 3 out of Fordyce.
