« Alegria - an amazing hit from Cirque Du Soleil »

Rating:
It was, in a word, Marvelous. The Joe Louis Arena, well known for sports, was transformed into a different land as Alegría unfolded before our eyes. Alegría is a Spanish word that means happiness, joy and jubilation and that sums up this show.
This presentation is mind boggling and very well produced. A combination of clowns, acrobats and music, this mix of songs, merriment and daring feats is a treat for all. The cast is amazing and held together by a “Ringmaster” and a woman who sings along with the on-stage musicians in a voice so sweet you would think a siren’s song was luring you to pay attention to the acts. But you don’t need any encouragement; you can’t take your eyes off the stage for fear that you will miss the next surprise. There are amazing feats of skill as men and women fly above you, mesmerizing dance and acrobatics are performed in front of you, and clowns come right into the audience with knee-slapping funny skits.
This show gets the perfect four out of Fordyce and a rare bonus die as a salute to the people behind the scenes who make this difficult show look easy. It doesn’t get any better than this.
The bad news is by the time most of you read this; the show will be gone from “The Joe.” There is good news; Michigan will get a second chance to see this event at the Breslin Center in East Lansing. It comes to town March 31 to April 4 and I plan to see it again. You should get your tickets now and enjoy the fun with me.
